A Pretty Stone Border

Sunday 30th August

We woke up to a very misty day but it soon cleared up and became warm and sunny.

At midday we went looking for our snake again. Chris walked out of the barn and straight past it. I saw it straight away and shouted out to warn him. We called Spencer out of the way as he was literally inches away from it.

The snake stayed still for a while and I could see its tiny tongue tasting the air. It must have sensed us as it then retreated into the undergrowth.

We made the most of the sunny weather having lunch outside, then on my hammock of course!

A bit later on I tackled some more of those bramble roots...they were hard work and it was very hot.

Chris moved some planks of wood in the farmhouse as he wanted to retrieve a 6 metre beam for repairing the barn.

I had found lots of smallish stones along the side of the house so I collected some to edge my little flower border.

We had a cup of tea late afternoon. By now the weather was very warm and close and trying to rain.

We had a text saying that our woodburner would be fitted tomorrow so Chris cleared underneath the chimney breast ready for the flue to be installed. I insisted he wore his hard hat!

Thanks for popping by!

Today we visited Concarneau on the South Brittany coast with our friends Bob and Val.

It turned out to be a lovely warm day...ideal for a trip to the sea!

Thanks for visiting!

Cheddar and Chutney

Friday 28th August

A lovely sunny warm day today with blue skies.

We got up in a leisurely manner. I did two loads of washing and a coat of paint to the kitchen shelf.

At midday I searched for our snake again. I carefully walked up the grassy path where I had found him before. I suddenly heard a rustle in the grass and saw him slither off into the undergrowth. I told Chris and a bit later he went back to see if he could see it. He found it sunbathing on top of the undergrowth....very well camouflaged!

For lunch we tried my blackberry chutney with some cheddar cheese in some sandwiches. It was very nice with a bit of a kick from the chilli.

Chris was busy in the afternoon waterproofing the well cover with roofing felt.......

......and replacing some wood panelling in the living room.

I dug some bramble roots from along the front of the farmhouse.

Thanks for popping by and for sticking with me!

Delicious Lunch Out and Blackberry Chutney

Thursday 27th August

Raining again today!

We drove to Gourin, stopping at the vets to make an appointment next week for Spencer’s wormer. Oh no! Nearly time to go back to England!

We went grocery shopping and then parked in the centre of town. There was a restaurant that had been recommended to us....La Table Morvan. We checked out the lunch menu, stepped inside and were immediately shown to our table. The atmosphere was very cosy with low lighting, wood panelling and a jazz theme...various brass instruments hanging on the walls....and jazz music softly playing in the background. We ordered our three course lunch which included local beef from a farm near our little town....the beef was melt in the mouth. The food was excellent and very reasonably priced helped along by the current good exchange rate. We will be back here again!

After lunch we paid a visit to our friend Henri. He showed us around his various sheds and his old milking parlour, pointing out and showing us various tools and pieces of equipment no longer in use including an old butter making machine. We then went in his house to say hello to his wife Yvette. We stayed for a drink of cola and a biscuit. I spoke French but I didn’t feel very confident today. Yvette is a lovely lady and today she seemed to be speaking very fast. I’d work out a word and she’d have already moved onto the next subject!

All part of the French learning curve!

We left with a big bag of new potatoes. We had a snack tea as we’d had a big meal at lunchtime. Chris and I then picked some blackberries and I made some blackberry chutney. It contained blackberries, onion, red chilli, ginger, sugar and red wine vinegar.

I know I wrote the wrong date!

It's been lovely to have your company!

August Rain

Wednesday 26th August

We woke up to torrential rain and howling it really August?!

Chris completed the new motorhome step.

Chris had made a shelf for the kitchen which I painted.

There had been so much rain, the pond was filling up!

Hooray! A spot of sunshine late afternoon....perhaps it is August after all....

Thanks for visiting!
